Because I am very, very lazy these days, I'm just doing all my recs on delicious. Sorry. :(

(And no, barring the apocalypse or possession by aliens, I will not be recc'ing other pairings. Nor will I be recc'ing any ST:TOS fic; much though I would wish it otherwise, that universe just never grabbed me, though I did enjoy the show.)

Fic and accompanying music soundtracks

Note to self: DO NOT look at the soundtracks that authors attach to otherwise promising-sounding fics. You risk being completely turned off by the author's evident fondness for bubblegum pop and then deciding to avoid the fic for no good reason whatsoever, especially when you know you have enjoyed this author's fic in the past. The fact that this author appears to have the musical taste of a 14-year-old girl (and may actually be one, for all you know) should have NO BEARING on your enjoyment of her stories.

Your prejudice is showing, self.

(I think I got spoiled by DS fic back in the Golden Age, wherein those who included soundtracks generally had what I consider to be interesting musical taste, even if it wasn't stuff I personally cared for. I really should know better than to expect that to always be the case.)

Happiness is...

...new flowers. Planted petunias & vinca in window boxes on my balcony (full sun) and impatiens in a pot by my front door (full shade). All in various degrees of pink & white; yeah, indulged my inner girl there, sorry. And joy of joys, the cats don't seem to care about them, so little chance of all the blossoms winding up kitty salad.

...good hair. I've been trying to stretch my trips to the salon for highlights & a cut to 8 weeks to save $$; total disaster. Six weeks is as long as I can stand it. (It grew 2-1/2 inches in 8 weeks. I didn't think that was possible.) Finally got full highlights and a great new cut for summer tonight, and feel like a new person. (Sort of a shorter Suze Ormon-type style, for those who care about such things. Yay!)

...discovering that with new casement fan mounted in my window and turned on all night, I can actually sleep more than 2 hours at a stretch without being woken up by the cats. Got 4 solid hours of sleep last night, and it was fabulous. Tonight we're shooting for 6. (My life is so exciting, I hardly know what to do with myself.)

...the new shiny and all the resulting fic. Wheee!

And happiness is not...

...realizing that you have a whole slew of recs saved on the desktop of the IBM ThinkPad. You know, the one whose power cord now has a nice little puncture through it, thanks to the evil furball with the oral fixation. So there will be a slight delay in getting those posted. (Oh no, I suppose that means I'll have to start a new list. Why, whatever shall I find to rec? *whistles innocently*)

Saw the ST Reboot on opening night in IMAX. Then again on Monday, because I lurved it so. Then 2x the next weekend with uisge_beatha and nnaylime, and then again with my aunt. And then got to MWC and maubast hadn't yet seen it, so we had to rectify that situation. Six times in 14 days; I think I've finally had enough. (Or have I? Dun dun DUN...)

Speaking of the reboot -- everyone has read the oh-so-brilliant parody that Sarah Rees Brennan has written here, right? Because if not, you really, really must. (Thanks to mtl for the link!)

As you can imagine, I'm now haunting the fic comms and inhaling the stuff like there's no tomorrow. Which I'm finding incredibly ironic, given that I am totally focused on K/S in the reboot fic, and that pairing never did a thing for me when I read it years ago when I first got into slash. Sadly, I don't find myself able to read the old TOS fic and mentally replace the pairing with the new Kirk/Spock; Kirk's character in particular is quite different in the reboot, and it comes through very clearly in his voice and characterization. So boo there, as that would be the motherlode of fic at my fingertips. :-( Looks like I'll just have to wait for people to write more. Or, you know, write some myself. :::laughs hysterically::: Yeah, that'll happen.

I had a lovely birthday weekend again visiting uisge_beatha and nnaylime. Saw ST XI twice, had fabulous food (and cake! yay!), went for a lovely drive in the country with the top down on the convertible (got my equivalent of a savage tan -- bright pink, so very attractive), and indulged in much snarking. Thanks so much to you guys for having me, it was great!! (Although I think I'm now going to have to try to break myself of my over-use of "dude." Which attempt could prove traumatic.)

Still recovering from MWC and the drive from hell. Had a lovely time -- it was wonderful to be able to spend time with maubast, kitt, silver_cyanne, graculus, irene_heron, mrlnpndrgn, m_lasha, sonia6349, sithdragn, obelix, jersey_lion, alem, and moonprincessnat! Many thanks to mrlnpndrgn and to obelix for the lovely treats from Canada -- you always spoil me terribly, and I thank you kindly for your generosity! :-)

As usual, the con went far too quickly -- seemed like we barely got there and then had to turn around and come back home. Woe. :-( On the upside, I got through the entire con without buying my usual half-ton of zines, so go me. *g* The hotel was a disorganized disaster and the in-house restaurant has taken a turn for the worse, but Aldaco's Mexican restaurant remains stellar, so all is not lost. So sad not to have a fall con this year; a whole year of no fannish interaction lies ahead. *sniff*

...till you've seen me try to customize CSS. Shyeah, don't give up your day job, sunshine.

Nevertheless, I perservered, and now have a layout I actually kind of like. (Thank heavens for people with actual talent who are kind enough to share their code for helpless shlubs like me to co-opt.)

On a more fannish note: 72 hours and 17 minutes until the new Star Trek opens. \o/!

Yes, I'm at DW. Same user name. I do like their diversity statement & guiding principles, and since they make it so effortless to crosspost, it's no extra work (always key with me).

ETA: If you're currently on my LJ flist but I somehow neglected to add you on DW, please don't think it's intentional, merely lack of diligence on my part -- I went back through skip=300 on my flist looking for posts mentioning DW names, and added what I saw, but I'm sure I missed loads. Please comment or just go ahead and add me and I'll add you back.

ETA again: Holy crap, these layouts in DW are HEINOUS. Seriously, I'd rather have the page in the DW profile default -- it'd be less painful. Let's hope there are other options up fast.
